In Morphing Realities, designer and artist Agnieszka Mazur (Studio Mazur) presents a compelling interplay between art-design objects and collages. This exhibition delves into the theme of morphing forms and their power to trigger perception. Mazur’s distinctive practice is deeply rooted in the meditative and repetitive acts of making—a process that imbues both her painted collages and tactile, handcrafted sculptures. Each piece offers a look into an alternative reality, where the familiar is meticulously re-imagined to unveil something hidden deeper within.
Redefining Alphabet: Collages
The collages in this show come from Mazur’s ongoing Redefining Alphabet series. In the process of creation, Mazur’s collages take on a life of their own. The composition changes, sometimes intentional, sometimes by chance, but inherent intuition guides every decision. In the wake of these meditative sessions, newly shaped symbols emerge, encapsulating a deeper feeling of ambiance and meaning. As such, these works are defined as a lexicon of unfamiliarity, where colour, shape, and composition evoke a feeling only encapsulated by the sum of their parts. Viewers are invited to read these works as symbols within a new alphabet.
Memory of the Sea: Light Objects
The art-design sculptures on display are unique light objects, originating from a dedicated material exploration of Zeeland’s distinct coastal environment. These pieces are integral to the ongoing Memory of the Sea project. Within the context of this exhibition, these sculptures serve as yet another alteration, creating alternative realities through the mediums and techniques used to make them. Their forms are organically built during creation, naturally incorporating elements like seashells and material deviations. In this sense, the objects truly become themselves as they are being made, rather than being executed to a predetermined design.
Agnieszka Mazur
Agnieszka Mazur is a material and design researcher based between the Netherlands and Poland. Her work is investigative, poetic, and critical. She explores materials not as static objects, but as active agents of meaning—vehicles that carry stories, assumptions, and questions about our shared reality. Through custom-made processes, she uncovers the hidden, the discarded, and the overlooked, using them as tools to question perception and challenge convention.
