The first edition of Estafette kicks off with Thomas & Jurgen and Yann L’Outsider. During a two-week residency, this creative trio will transform our exhibition spaces into open studios, inviting the public to witness their process. Throughout this time, they will create, collaborate, visit inspiring places, and engage in discussions, all while working toward an exhibition that will be on view for nine weeks.
Thomas & Jurgen and Yann L’outsider
Their work is defined by contrasts, expressive line work, bold surfaces, organic forms, and a striking use of black and white. Both share a fascination with movement and its connection to visual imagery. Thomas & Jurgen, for example, experiment with performances in which they create art to the rhythm of a live jazz band. Yann L’Outsider, on the other hand, draws inspiration from dance, viewing graffiti as an unintentional choreography that incorporates various movements and rhythms. Where do their works intersect? How do they push each other’s boundaries? What new insights will they uncover together?
Thomas & Jurgen and Yann L’Outsider will pass the baton to Rutger de Vries and Johannes Langkamp.

Rotterdam-based Thomas Bevelander & Jurgen Wiegeraad, or Thomas & Jurgen, love to experiment.
In visual jam sessions – starting with a word, material or association – they collectively search for a new visual language. They also organise performances where they create work supported by a live jazz band. This approach pushes them to challenge each other and explore different directions. Using self-made tools, they experiment with how paint and ink interact with diverse surfaces. Thomas and Jurgen also work with markers, paint rollers, digital tools, spray cans and traditional printing techniques. Together, they create a unique visual world of murals, videos, installations, posters, work on glass, publications, prints and album covers.
Yann L’Outsider lives on the rugged French-Breton coast. He is trained as a furniture maker, where patience and accuracy play an important role. He combines this approach with his passion for graffiti, which is typified by freedom and adrenaline.
Yann is strongly inspired by letters and typography due to his background on the streets, exploring the boundary between the symbolism of a legible letter and abstraction. He is also interested in the similarity between the physical movements of graffiti writing and dance. Yann sees the practice of creating graffiti as an unintentional choreography in which a range of fixed movements and rhythms recur, his work thus balances between mastery and uncontrolledness.
